PeregrineFalcon.jpg  The Peregrine Falcon is a formidable raptor, It has long, broad, pointed wings and a relatively short tail. It is blue-grey above, with a blackish top of the head and an obvious black 'moustache' that contrasts with its white face. Its breast is finely spotted...Normally found along rocky sea cliffs and the uplands of the UK both are both good places in the breeding season to spot them, however the Peregrine is fast becoming a regular sight in rural areas as well as city centers...they like tall lofty buildings and churche's with towers and feed on the varied local "fresh Food" sources such as pigeons and other small birds, they will also take rats and squirrels and small fat bunnies if they can find them...once known as the "Duck Hawk"...they are swift silent killers with near perfect sight...they can spot prey from distances so far away we would need binoculars to see the same...once targeted it is a forgone conclusion that it is going to have a meal and some poor creature is going to die...We have a Mill locally that has been converted into retail units, attached to this is a huge tower with what looks like a Pear on top and as you will no doubt guess it is called "Pear Mill...about two thirds up the tower is a recess with a mating pair of Peregrines who have nested there for some time now and are a familiar sight...the area has a river and large areas of woodland with various ducks, rabbits and other animals that form the basic diet of these beautiful birds...I have promised myself that I Will take my HD Video setup with me and make some movies as well as a few close up pictures...and may-bee I will post my first movie on the blog, watch this space...thanks for looking.
